Today, The Platinum Mask channel would like to introduce Montana McPherson for a conversation.

Hey! Please explain to the audience what you’re promoting.

Dallas/Fort Worth native, Montana, is an up and coming artist who was born in Arlington, Texas. Montana is a multifaceted, singer and her music is a reflection of herself.

What was the biggest obstacle in your journey and how did you overcome it?

I believe my biggest obstacle was/is myself. I tend to overthink everything habitually, and often times my best expressions of myself are when I’m out of my head, singing purely from my heart. I’ve had to remind myself not to get caught up in “the industry”, and to always remain true to my original purpose. Creating healing art that transcends the test of time.

What separates you from similar artists in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?

Although I have a high respect for my fellow artists. I believe my overall goal, purpose and execution set my apart from everyone else. Yes, I’m an artist but I’m also a community activist. I’m a strong believer in giving back not only to the less fortunate, but back to my community as well. Currently I’m a student at the University of Texas at Arlington, where I study Business, Marketing, Management and Music. With my skill sets and talent, I plan to start non profit organizations for our youth to excel and also share their music, talents, skills, etc. with the world.

Is there anything you wished you would have known earlier in your journey?

As everything else in life, you have to experience things to grow. Every lesson I learn or have learned was meant to be learned at that exact moment. However, I’m grateful for my mentors that help guide me, and allow me to make healthy mistakes instead of watching me “kick against the bricks”.

Do you have any favorite spots in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?

One of my favorite spots to go is “The Free Man Cajun Cafe”. This spot has sentimental value to me, but they always have great vibes, great music and great food!

Were there any major challenges due to the covid-19 pandemic? How did you overcome them?

As an artist the covid-19 pandemic was a pro and a con. Not being able to perform was a challenge, not being able to go to studios freely, etc. However, it also gave me a time to sit and really reflect on life allowing me to write and create freely. Not necessarily being on a time frame gave me a clear mind to create, reorganize, rebrand and reset.

What was your upbringing like and did you discover your passion early on?

My interest for music sparked at the young age of 2, as I have a strong musical background beginning in the church. Shorty after, I began blossoming into my passion to sing, and playing the violin. With my Southern roots and church background, my sound can be described as smooth r&b sounds, with those famous, base heavy Texas twists.

Do you have a mentor and can you remember any key advice they have given you?

One of my main mentors, my mother, has given me many keys to life but one thing that’s always stuck in my head is, “Always follow your dreams baby girl, never let anyone stop you from fulfilling your purpose. God put you on this Earth to shine, never put limits on God or his creation (you)”. I’ve stopped doubting myself ever since.

Were your friends and family supportive of your mission?

I’m so blessed to have a support system that supports me in everything I do. Friends come and go, but my family is forever. I thank God for blessing me with such a loving, supportive family!
