Today, The Platinum Mask channel would like to introduce Julie Martinez for a conversation.
Hey! Please explain to the audience what you’re promoting.
I’m a Dallas Artist and want to be a part of the art community and just grow my skills in that area.
What was the biggest obstacle in your journey and how did you overcome it?
The largest obstacle that I continually face throughout my journey with art and just in my personal life is taking the time to slow down and really focus and quiet myself to be able to create. It’s hard to make time for art when you have a full time job and a busy schedule, but you have to practice to improve a skill! It’s something I’m always struggling with, but I’m trying to dedicate at least 1 day a week to creating—even if it’s awful! It’s just about getting in the habit so creativity comes more naturally.
What separates you from similar creatives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?
I’m just a person creating art for fun. I hope to share it and to grow and challenge myself and to be open to opportunities—like this interview for example! Thank you, again, by the way! I have no sense of pretense at all, I’m just happy to be here on planet earth and happy to have these opportunities to create art and talk about it.
What was your upbringing like and did you discover your passion early on?
I was drawing at the age of 2; I mean the art wasn’t great but I would draw these weird bubble shapes and then it just grew from there. I did discover pretty early on that I enjoyed art, but I think I didn’t take it seriously until high school and back then my style was a bit different than it is now.
Were your friends and family supportive of your mission?
I am so friggin blessed by my family and friends. I have such a supportive community around me that have always supported me and encouraged me. My parents let me doodle on everything as a kid and they would buy me art kits and push me in high school when I started taking painting seriously. My grandma also used to take me and my sister to oil painting classes on the weekends. My husband and our friends are just insanely present for me; they’ve come to every show I’ve participated in, helped me set up and break down. I literally wouldn’t be doing any of this if it weren’t for my support system.
