Today, The Platinum Mask channel would like to introduce MaKayla for a conversation.
Hey! Please explain to the audience what you’re promoting.
I’ve been working on a few projects for a while now, and I’m excited to finally release what I’ve been working on this year. My last music project was released in August, 2021. I’ve been taking a while to release my new music project, because I want my listeners to hear my growth and story. I’ve come a long way, and growth is precious. Not to mention, that I’m also working on becoming a business owner. Everything is still in the works, and I’m looking forward to some of my upcoming release dates. I plan to open my official wedding officiant business, and will have more details available soon. My business is called The Dazzling Wedding Officiant.
What was the biggest obstacle in your journey and how did you overcome it?
When I first released my debut EP titled, Serenity I realized that I had overcome a lot of obstacles. During that time in my life, I wasn’t fulfilling my full purpose in life. I had to separate myself from bad decisions and influences in order for me to move on and prosper. My biggest obstacle dealt with being surrounded by bad influences and negative energy. Negative energy can suck the life out of anyone. When you start to put yourself first, and take care of your mental health, you start to understand your worth. I had a moment of feeling serene once I started to focus on me.
Is there anything you wished you would have known earlier in your journey?
I wish I would’ve known that someone else’s timing is not your timing. Your journey is your journey for a reason. Everyone has a different story, and we’re not meant to be the same. I feel as if we live in a society where everyone is comparing each other by what they see on social media. Social media typically only aims to share the good parts of someone’s story. You’re not receiving the full story, you’re just receiving the happy ending. Life is full of ups and downs, and it is a beautiful process if you let it be.
Do you have any favorite spots in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?
If I’m being honest, I would say that I’m a homebody and I love my home. But in all seriousness, I do love going to the stockyards, the state fair during the fall, and I of course love to drive on country roads, and I also enjoy driving around downtown areas like Fort Worth or Dallas to look at the bright lights at night. I love going to new food spots that focus on brunch or seafood.
Were there any major challenges due to the covid-19 pandemic? How did you overcome them?
With the Covid-19 pandemic, I can confidently say that we were all nervous hearing about this when it first came out. I was actually in college at the time, and all of the students were released to go back home. I finished my schooling from home, and I pretty much did all of my hobbies pertaining to music and modeling from home. Covid brought out the creativity in a lot of people that had to stay at home. Covid also birthed a lot of new creators and inventors. The main challenge is the fact that you didn’t have a lot of outings and networking sessions with other people in person, but you did have the internet and social media.
What was your upbringing like and did you discover your passion early on?
I discovered music through my grandmother. Singing has always been a part of me. I did a few talent shows around the age of 9 or 10, and I also became a musician playing the clarinet, piano, and bassoon by middle school. As a young girl, I would go to a community center over the summers and spring break called R.D. Evans Community Center located in Fort Worth. At R.D. Evans, I was known as the girl who could sing, and I was always asked to sing. I was also an active youth at YMCA and I was nicknamed “Miss. Thang Thang” for my sass and style. I knew my passion and image at an early age.
Do you have a mentor and can you remember any key advice they have given you?
I have a few mentors that pertain to my professional and personal situations. I do remember being told to always stay true to my word. If you say you are going to do something then do it. Your word is your bond, and that saying has always stuck with me. Keeping this in mind can take you a long way.
Were your friends and family supportive of your mission?
My loved ones have always been supportive of anything that I’ve done. I’m grateful to have both parents in my life who have taught me so much. It definitely takes a village. My village includes my mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, spouse, close friends, and the list goes on. I’m forever grateful and blessed.
