Today, The Platinum Mask channel would like to introduce Xavier DeWayne Williams for a conversation.
Hey! Please explain to the audience what you’re promoting.
I’m a nonprofit organization owner as well as a music artist with my own clothing line. I’d say my audience is anyone that wants to express themselves but can’t do it through a normal means and anyone that had a difficulty in finding who they want to be.
What was the biggest obstacle in your journey and how did you overcome it?
Currently working on a very personal project. My biggest obstacle is me. I still haven’t fully overcome it but I’m growing I’m learning to stop sleeping on myself and to push forward and reach my true potential. I’m also learning to open up more as I said this project I’m working on is a biopic of my life after high school.
What separates you from similar artist in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?
I would say just the fact that I live by “you don’t have to put yourself in one category and you can accomplish anything you’d like if you want it bad enough.” I started a nonprofit named diverse expressions to help people who struggle to find ways to communicate their emotions through words so I offer creative art solutions such as painting, sculpting, making music, even dance. It’s still a work in progress though.
Is there anything you wished you would have known earlier in your journey?
That my family and friends were going to support me like they have. I didn’t realize how much love i had in my life until recently.
Do you have any favorite spots in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?
I don’t have favorite spots per-say, but I do love exploring the area as much as I can you never know what you might stumble upon.
Were there any major challenges due to the covid-19 pandemic? How did you overcome them?
Not really, by that time I had just started to learn how to record myself and after that I kind of just found people to teach me different things and built my repertoire of knowledge before really getting serious about music.
What was your upbringing like and did you discover your passion early on?
I grew up in Monroe, Louisiana which is not the greatest place but home is home. Moved here around 2009 with my parents and my 2 siblings. My parents both sing. My dad actually paints and his family is all very artistic. Both sides of the family are filled with creatives. I love them all even the ones I haven’t met yet I hope to meet them one day though. Music was something everyone bonded over my mom was in the choir at church my dad introduced me to different genres and I used to sing along to everything even if i didn’t know what was going on music brought me peace.
Do you have a mentor and can you remember any key advice they have given you?
Quite a few. My dad taught me a lot about how to make sure I could survive on my own and encouraged me to save and build a foundation to stand on if anything ever happens. My grandad taught me a lot about business and sound just by me watching most of the time. Chief Rebel, A. Michael E. Taught me how to make beats and record myself in addition to what i was learning online. Definitely had a lot of people help me along the way and i appreciate each and every one of them. Oh I definitely can’t forget my cousin Dominique who pushes me to make more music all the time and really tries to get me to put myself out there. I also wanted to give a shoutout to TSB Whit, another recording artist.
Were your friends and family supportive of your mission?
Always it’s crazy how much they support me and try to help me wherever they can.
