Today, The Platinum Mask channel would like to introduce Quincey Surface for a conversation.
Hey! Please explain to the audience what you’re promoting.
Hi! My name is Quincey and I am a self taught painter from around College Station, Texas. For the past 6+ years, I have been painting grad caps as a side job while pursuing accounting as a degree/job. I specialize in floral caps, but have created just about everything under the sun for graduates. Creating a special cap for the BIG day is my goal for every graduate before they walk the stage!
What was the biggest obstacle in your journey and how did you overcome it?
One of my biggest obstacles in this business was building it from the ground up. I began this business as a wooden home décor virtual store. Upon moving to Dallas, woodworking was no longer practical, so I made the transition into grad cap toppers. Determining my customer based, the most efficient methods to complete a cap start to finish, and building my social media pages were not easy, but were overcome as time passed. Now I am shipping cap toppers nationwide and love everything about his side job!
What separates you from similar artist in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?
I would say that there are not many grad cap designers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I have chosen a very niche market; therefore, have a very defined set of customers. Another thing that sets me apart is that I am a recent grad, so I understand the importance of a special cap for a special day!
What was your upbringing like and did you discover your passion early on?
I would say that my upbringing did inspire my passion for art. I grew up participating in crafts with my mom, entering every art show that I was old enough for, and registered for every art class that I could take in school. As my passion grew for art, my business ideas quickly surfaced. Pairing my passion for art and my business degree truly paved the way for this business to thrive and be successful.
Were your friends and family supportive of your mission?
My friends and family were super supportive of this endeavor. The amount of shares, likes, comments, and orders that I have received from those close to me kept me afloat in the beginning. Eventually word got out about my vision for the business and others started ordering, but my family were the ones that truly helped this business become what it is today.
