Today, The Platinum Mask channel would like to introduce Hannah Pettigrew for a conversation.

Hey! Please explain to the audience what you’re promoting.

I am a wedding planner in the DFW area. My company is called Something Borrowed Event Company.

What was the biggest obstacle in your journey and how did you overcome it?

My biggest obstacle during my journey was landing my first client. When I first started my business I struggled to get my name out there. The hardest thing is for people to trust you to plan and execute their day perfectly, but unfortunately, when you first start a business, you have no reviews or pictures to back your expertise up. Once I found that one couple to take a chance on me, I started to book more clients, it just took that one couple to trust me to make their day perfect!

What separates you from similar businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?

Something that I have gotten a compliment on at every single wedding I have done is how calm I am. This is extremely important for me as a planner and for my clients. Things are likely to happen on the wedding day, but I am there to figure out a solution for them and as long as I am calm, it keeps other vendors calm and it is easier to work out a solution for the problem.

What was your upbringing like and did you discover your passion early on?

I grew up with a mom, dad, and older sister who supported me in anything I chose to do. I played many sports but stuck with track and cross country. I had many dreams along the way until I decided I wanted to be a wedding planner, but I discovered it while working at a bridal store called Lasting Bridal Couture where I worked as a bridal assistant. Once I discovered the world of weddings, I decided it was something I wanted to do when I was older. I was determined to open my own business one day, just needed to get some experience before then.

Do you have a mentor and can you remember any key advice they have given you?

During my wedding planning journey, I was mentored by the fabulous Leah Hudson who owns Given Event Company. I had the opportunity to be a part of her team and learned some amazing things from her. She taught me how to be more confident when doing weddings and how to find the right flow when planning a timeline for a couple. There is so much more that I had learned from her and it was an honor to be mentored by her.

Were your friends and family supportive of your mission?

My friends and family were always supportive of my dreams and knew this was a dream of mine for so long. In the beginning, some were concerned about how young I am and that I have so much to learn still. I think now they see the success that my business has and know that I took the risk and it was the right one to take. I am learning new things every day, but I am so happy that I started it when I did because of how big of a wedding year this is for the wedding industry.
