Today, The Platinum Mask channel would like to introduce Carlos Harleaux for a conversation.

Hey! Please explain to the audience what you’re promoting.

My latest novel, Trigger Pointe, is a tale about a man’s desperation that makes him fall victim to an illegal money scheme. He quickly finds himself in too deep to get out.

What was the biggest obstacle in your journey and how did you overcome it?

Getting out of my own way has been my biggest obstacle. Over the years that has meant multiple things such as finances, creative blocks and not following my intuition. God and the support of my family and friends have truly helped me overcome any obstacles I’ve faced as an author.

What separates you from similar artist in the Dallas-Fort Worth area?

The market is saturated with so many talented authors. I specialize in fiction (novels) and poetry. I love mixing real-life scenarios with creative imagination. There’s a piece of me in all of my books and I don’t write to please the masses. I have to be pleased with my work first.

Is there anything you wished you would have known earlier in your journey?

I wish I was more strategic about my connections with people and how I marketed myself. That is such a key component to success.

Were there any major challenges due to the covid-19 pandemic? How did you overcome them?

I used to participate in many in-person vendor events and book signings before the covid-19 pandemic. However, I had to pivot and shift my focus to more of an online push until it was safer to be outside again.

What was your upbringing like and did you discover your passion early on?

I am blessed with a very loving and support family. My parents have always encouraged me to follow my dreams, so it started there. I first realized I had a love for writing and poetry specifically after I read some of Edgar Allen Poe’s poetry for a high school assignment.

Do you have a mentor and can you remember any key advice they have given you?

So many people and even life situations have provided mentorship for me. One piece of advice I received that has always stuck with me is always stay true to yourself. Pleasing other people and neglecting yourself can be exhausting. I know from experience.
